Introduction
Lagoon Hospitals is one the largest healthcare companies in Nigeria with almost 40 years of experience in providing a range of primary and tertiary healthcare services across its locations. It pioneered advanced medical care in Nigeria and it continues to invest in high quality specialty services.
Challenge
Lagoon was looking for ways to efficiently manage its energy and enhance its operational setup. The management then requested that Smarterise perform an energy audit on one of its sites.
Approach
Smarterise carried out an energy audit, mapping out energy used, with a description and quantification of the different areas concerned. Smarterise identified and built estimates of major areas of potential savings, revolving mainly around lighting, cooling systems, behavioural changes, generator sizing, etc. The energy audit also provided a description of the proposed potential improvement initiatives as well as a selection of recommended energy performance indicators.
Results
The energy audit led to significant savings in the following areas; system sizing, energy efficient HVAC systems and energy efficient lighting. Improvements in the following areas saved Lagoon close to 40% in its annual OPEX.
Conclusion
Lagoon Hospitals got a clearer view of its energy costs alongside energy efficiency measures and has been able to save on energy. It can channel its investment into advanced medical care and remain among the top in the country.
At first we were sceptical that savings could be achieved without significant investments, but Smarterise’s team accompanied us in every step of the way.
